live window display

Looking at different live window displays I came the to conclusion that I want  to create a window display that has an event attached to it. By combining the live display with an event held at Hepwrights I hope that I will achieve what I set out to at the beginning  which was to help create more of a buzz  around Hepwrights promote the business more and gain the company more customers.
By organising an event to run alongside the window I should be able to create a fun busy day at Hepwright's that could help gain new customers.
Things that i need to orgainse for the event.

Makeup artist
Hair Stylist
Dj

photographs from the studio shoot

Today I edited and retouched soon of the photographs from the shoot i created for Hepwright's's last week.
Some of these images are my personal favorites and the best work I have created in the past three years of universty.
There were only two problems that made the shoot difficult the first being that my make up artist did not turn up to so i had to find a first year studio to create a make up style on the spot as the make up artist had the final face charts. Luckily the makeup idea that I had decided on for the shoot wasn't to extravagant and was quite easy to explain so in the end the make up wasn't to different to what I wanted.
The second problem  was the size of the studio. The studio was perfect for shooting one model at a time however once both of the models where in frame it felt a bit to cramped and they didn't have as much room to move about Because of this issue there is a lot more singular shots and less group shots.
Here's some of the photographs let me know what you think.

Live Window display idea

For my final window display I decided that it would be a cool idea to create a live action window display. This is where models are used instead of mannequins they can interact with passers by or just be moving statues such as those that stand on the street painted metalic.
One of my favorite live window displays was created by Adidas at Christmas in 2010.
The dancers performed a range of routines on a rotation of groups of three. This kind of display really draws a crowd to it because most window displays are static and  just involve sight, this window display involves both sight and hearing. The dancers interacting with the public makes passers by  stop and look the more people stopping and looking they more people that will enter the shop seeing whats going on inside the shop.

Z card

Creating My CV.

Designing a creative CV that reflects your personality and work  is important. My CV reflects my personality because its fun, quirky and slightly chaotic.
I picked the font 'Impact Label' as it looks like a Dynamo tape writer I remember being younger and spending hours playing with my pink and orange Dynamo making labels for everything I could.
For this reason I decided that it would be the best font for me as it brings back memories but also it is a bold and fun font.
My CV is all on angles  keeping away from the normal CV writing in straight lines across the page. I felt that this made my CV interesting and eye catching.
In the top left and corner is a self portrait of me and my step dad. I used this picture to describe  myself, the photograph was taken off my favorite camera that is a film fish eye camera. I didn't have any serious self portraits of myself on a SLR camera so this lomography camera was the next best thing. Including the fish eye photograph also shows a different style of photography that I like to use that is a lot more natural and fun than some of my other photography.
On my CV I also decided to include a selection of images from my portfolio this should interest people give them an idea what my work is like and make them want to view my website.

Let me know what you all think of my CV and how you would change it or do differently.
The next thing i need to do is to create a Z card.

Chosing Garments.

The next step in my final major project is to create a series of promotional images for Hepwright's.
After over an hour in Hepwrights pulling out garments that both Catherine and I wanted to be in the shoot and then trying to find a story that could link them together.
There weres many outfit that  got taken out of the final collection and then got put back in.
I found that because Hepwrights is a one off vintage shop styling this shoot was more challenging because there arent trends as there is on the high street, there are just clothes that are similar in style because they are from one period in time.
As we didn't want to have the images based on one period in time we  have to find a story to link them.
Eventually we agreed on the garments and the theme connecting them would be a wedding or party. This meant that we could show off some of the best dresses but also accessories such as hats.
Here are some quick snaps of the garments that I picked.

This was my first choice of dresses that I wanted to photography I think it stood out to me because of the sequin bodice section. There was something about this dress that is timeless as it could be worn and people would not know that it was vintage.

The detail on the bottom half of this dress is fabulous. The dress had a matching jacket to go with it with the same pattern but I decided that it would work better with out the jacket.

Sequined tops are very much a high street trend at the moment so having a original styled one would work well in my photo shoot.  I plan on teaming this top with either pink cotton trousers or white linen ones.

This dress is going to be perfect for the shoot its going to stand out  and inject pattern into the images.

Now anybody that knows me knows that I am not a fan of the colour yellow don't ask me why I just never think it works well on people however this particular shade of pastel yellow caught my eye with its little triangle pattern on it I feel that it could bring a lot to the shoot.

The colour of this dress is one of my personal favourites and the cut of it will be very flattering on my models. The dress really has a party or wedding feel to it.

This is another sequined vest top that will be paired with the white linen trousers.

This jacket was only a maybe to the collection however I decided that it was worth taking to the shoot anyway as we might use it and I would probably regret it if I didn't take it.

So that was my clothes ready and sorted for my photo shoot now all I had to do was email these images to my make up artist so she could make up the face charts.

Models.

For my photo shoot I decided that having more than one model would work best then I could see how the clothes would work differently on each model and I could also create some shots with more than one model in.
Originally I wanted to have both male and female models but once I had spoken to Catherine  we decided that we would use just female models this was due to the lack of male models that would work in the shoot and the limited menswear we had to work with that week.

As we were shooting vintage garments it was important to find models that were slim as clothes were made smaller then because as a nation we were thinner.

The first model I had in mind was Ellisha White. She is a first year fashion photography student so  she knows what works well in front  of the camera.

Catherine agreed that Ellisha would be great and  then picked a model that she wanted to be part of the images.

This is Emily Hinkley

I think these two will work great  next to each other because they both have such different and striking looks.

Spring Window.

And so it begins.....

Mysecond window display was installed in Hepwrights today and it went a lot easier than the first window for valentine's day. This may of been for a few reasons maybe because I had already installed a window and because this installation would be some what simpler in the fact it had no painting on the window.

To hang the  flower poms in the window I used very fine fishing wire so it looked practically invisible from the outside on the window. I made the decision that I would either use something really bold to hang the poms with so that it was part of the display or use thin fishing wire so that they would appear to be floating. As I couldn't find anything that fitted the theme to hang them with fishing wire it was.
Hepwright's window has two parallel metal poles across the ceiling to hang things from which are perfect to tie the fishing wire around to hang the poms off.

Positioning the poms was  important so as to spread the colours and sizes out so that it looked random but there was not to many of the same colour together or of the same size hung at the same height.
The only real issue I had while hanging the pom poms was my height as the rails hang off the ceiling so I had to stretch up on my tip toes so it was difficult to tie the fishing wire. As soon as all the poms were tied to the rails it was easy to slide them from side to side to space them how I wanted.

The next step was the dress that was going to be the single central garment in the this display.
The dress I picked was a simple yellow dress with spaghetti straps a slight petticoat and a bodice embellished with beads.
To give the dress something extra I made a petticoat out of tissue paper  to fill the dress out.

The tissue paper petticoat was made of some of the colours from the pom poms mixed with white and then taped together and hung up inside the dress.

With the dress just pulled completely over the petticoat  it weighted it down and crushed it slightly so I decided that  pinning part of the dress up would stop the petticoat being crushed and would add movement to the dress.

This is a photograph of how I started to hold the dress up with fishing wire.
I also added a blue scarf as a belt and tied as a bow in the back  to make the petticoat stand out more.

So here it is my spring themed window bright and breezy let me no what you think.

Attempting to make flower pom's

To figure out how to make my flower pom's i decided to search the wonders of youtube.com as being able to watch how somebody make them is always easier than just following steps that have been written down.
This was the video i decided to follow, take a look it will show you just how simple they are to make.

After watching the video I went to the craft shop to get tissue paper in different colours and string.
These were just some of the colours that I chose to make my poms out of.
The mix of bright colours with pastels means that they will  match with any garment that can be found in Hepwright's.
Pastels are the colour scheme that is associated with the spring season so it made sense that I used colours from the pastel palette but at the same time teaming them with bright colours it would keep the display away from having a  purely pastel theme to it.

Half way through my first pom and it was starting to take shape. The only difficult part of making the pom was folding it to the same size each time and then when separating each layer making sure not to rip the tissue paper.

Et Voila
A homemade flower pom. This pom was made with nine sheets of tissue paper five pink four orange.
I am impressed with my first few attempts at flower poms i decided to experiment with making smaller sized ones.

The smaller poms look a lot fuller using nine layers. For the larger poms I might try experiment with more layers to see if they look better and more spherical.

I decided that eleven layers of tissue paper worked better for me with my poms and making my folds smaller so they were just under an inch helped make my poms keep there shape more.
As you can see I've been a very busy bee and flower poms have been taking over my life.
I feel although I could make them in my sleep now I have made so many different sizes, mix of colours, different numbers of sheets of tissue paper, some with large folds and some with small.
Hopefully by having such a range of flower poms it will look better and more personal than all one size and one colour.
Let me know if any of you have tried out making these and if so how you got on .

Pom Pom's

It's always incredibly satisfying when you find a way to make your ideas in to the real thing.
After days and days of trying to find a way to create a window display  without using real flowers I finally found the perfect way to reflect spring feeling with bright colours and still have a flowery feel to it .

Flower Pom Pom's made out of tissue paper. they can be made in such a large variety of shapes and colours they are also incredibly cheap to make  which is perfect as I think it will take quite a few to fill up the window.

Flower pom's are often used as wedding decorations or for parties and baby showers. They are bright bold and fun which is just what i want for my window.

The next step was to figure out how to actually construct these flower Pom's next step ...... YouTube.com

Abstract Flowers

Since both real flowers and artificial flowers were out of the action plan of my window  I began to looking through tumblr at how different people created flowers out of different things here are some of the interesting finding.

This is the most creative way i have found of making abstract flowers and also the most Eco friendly.
Who would of thought you could make something so pretty out of your food waste? Not only do these flowers look beautiful fresh and when they dry out but they would also smell amazing too!
To make a big enough impact for a whole window display however I would have to make hundreds and that is a lot of oranges to eat !

Paper origami flowers is an option that i could use for my window display these are so delicate and pretty  and can be decorated with gems  or buttons. They could be made in a wide range of colours and different sizes there is also different variations on the flowers  you can make.
The only problem i can see about using these as part of my window is that they would be  time consuming to make and then would be difficult to transport to the shop with being damaged.

This is another beautiful idea of how to make flowers out of waste.
This flower globe is made out of pages of an old book or you could use news paper.
I personally like the idea of  the flowers being in a globe shape as it makes them visible from both the outside and inside of the shop.
These would be perfect for my window display apart from the fact they are black and white, as my window is spring themed i had imagined using more colours.

Shortly after finding the paper book globes I found these! flower tissue paper poms.
They are perfect for my window display I could make them in whatever colours I wanted.
Now all I had to do was figure out how to make them.
Wish me luck!

Spring window Idea.

After my first window had been on display for three weeks it was already time to start planning the next window display for Hepwright's. Even though it was still snowing and firmly still in the winter season. Planning a window that was spring themed was still the idea I wanted to follow, this was because i felt everyone needs something to brighten up there day and remind them that  spring is coming.
I began to look at window displays that have been created around the spring theme as inspiration, here are some of the displays that i found worked well and why.

The idea of using flowers really stood out to me as a spring themed window idea. After taking these idea's to Hepwright's  to ask Catherine her ideas we both decided that flowers would be a great idea to base the spring window on.

Real flowers would cause a massive problem because the would have to be changed every few days as there would be no way to keep them fresh. This made me look at different artificial flowers and if they would be more practical to use.

Artificial come in a large range of sizes and different types of flowers so in theory they would be perfect to use for a window display. The more I looked into artificial flowers the more that i decided against using them this was because  the smaller flowers that look more realistic  wouldn't have the impact I wanted for the window in contrast the flowers that were big enough to have an impact looked to fake. If the flowers were going to look fake I felt it would be better to make really fake flowers that didn't necessarily look like  flowers but gave the impression of them.

I decided my next step will be to look at different peoples ideas of more abstract flowers on tumblr.
